Welcome today to the Barn here at Resting Life! What better place to share and enjoy books about siblings than here! If you have a sibling, you know barns can provide ample sibling fun and memories!

It’s day four of Five Fall Favorites, a week-long book party hosted by Read Another Page with party “rooms” at various literary blogs! Each blog has a different theme for the day and each blog will be sharing five favorite books in a specific genre. There are also giveaways and free books, so don’t forget to check out the rest of the rooms for today’s freebie (link at the end of this post). The US giveaway includes a fall reading basket with several paperbacks and a mug. The good news is if we get enough entries, we’re adding a special second prize and perhaps even a third, so go enter!

The door creaks open slowly. An orange leaf floats down to rest in the dust near the doorway. The scent of hay fills the air. Pumpkin rest in the corners, piled for winter use. Readers of all ages file in, find a cozy corner in the hay, and settle in.

Five Little Peppers series by Margaret Sidney

These books are the best! A close-knit, sweet, and lively family with true friendships, struggles, mishaps, celebrations, making a living, and creating one’s own fun moments out of the small things of life fill these pages. Ben, Polly, Joel, Davie, and Phronsie – and of course Jasper and his dog – are so relatable, loveable, and real. These books have been lifelong favorites for me due to the loyal sibling relationships. I can’t wait to read these books to my children and enjoy these treasures once more in all the beauty of the simple things.

Little Women

This is a classic book about siblings – sisters, to be precise. Yet below the surface-level sweet story of a maturing family are timeless principles – principles of honesty, loyalty, love, truth, trust, forgiveness, wisdom, courage, and selflessness. Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy are role models to look up to as we pursue our own life journey deeper into God’s kingdom.

Little House on the Prairie series

This series has been a favorite of mine ever since I can remember, and the sister relationships in the book play a large role in that. Seeing the close-knit family interactions in a different time period is heartwarming. Mary, Laura, Carrie, and Grace played a large part in shaping my own childhood and the adult I am today. And, as an author myself now, I can’t help but marvel: aren’t those covers gorgeous?

Never by J. Grace Pennington

This story of two brothers and their relationship even to the point of death was well-written. The description drew me in. The premise was catchy and the flow of events made me want to keep reading. The characters were well-developed and the message was excellently done – and much needed in our world today. The content itself wasn’t exactly my type of book – more violence than I personally care for – but it wasn’t at all over-the-top or graphic. The mystery was well-woven, though the explanations at the end didn’t quite all come together perfectly for me. So much was involved that it was difficult to keep it all straight in the end.  I’d recommend this book to fans of historical mystery and Westerns.

Enjoy the Poodle Skirt by Kate Willis

This is a sweet, fun story with a dash of vintage flair, happy sibling moments, and a fun search/mini-mystery. I’d highly recommend this book! Whimsical, light, fun, and happy, Enjoy the Poodle Skirt is just what a story should be.

Thanks so much for joining me in the barn today! Enjoy the rest of the events today (linked in the graphic at the bottom), and I’ll see you here tomorrow!

    • Nice! As soon as my daughter turned three, she wanted me to read the Little House books to her – so I pulled out my set and we began. She loves them! Always knew I’d read them to her. Didn’t know it would be this soon! 😄
