Hebrews 11:3: faith is our shield against the philosophies of the world – against evolution, humanism, and naturalism. We “act as if” the worlds were made by God’s Word out of nothing – even though we might not see that.
The shield of faith protected Abel from coming to God on his own terms. He could not see why a certain sacrifice was needed – but he did it.
The shield of faith protected Enoch from death.
The shield of faith protected Noah from the evil of the world and from the flood. He too took the Word of God as true, even thought it was on some things “not seen as yet.” Because he acted as if the Word was true even without seeing it, he lived in faith.
The shield of faith was covering Abraham. “Fear not, Abram; I am thy shield…” (Genesis 15:1). God was Abram’s shield of faith. “By faith Abram…went out, not knowing whither he went…” He acted as if he knew where he was going – for God knew.
