And he hath made my mouth like a sharp sword; in the shadow of his hand hath he hid me, and made me a polished shaft; in his quiver hath he hid me; (Isaiah 49:2).
An arrow is shot and used. It would seem to make little difference whether or not the shaft was polished – but God is after more than that. He delights in us! He polishes us just because! I am His polished shaft – polished to reflect the image of His Son!
“Countenance as the sun shineth in his strength” – no wonder John fell at his feet as dead. In the sudden presence of this brilliance, all strength probably left him.
